Kicking Off Fall Sports with a Pep Rally for the Ages!

Fall sports are officially underway, so to celebrate our amazing student athletes, students and staff gathered in Singleton Gym Friday afternoon for our first pep rally of the year. And, boy, have we missed these.

The afternoon kicked off with a lip-sync battle featuring two unforgettable performances. Mr. Tait took the stage with One Day More from Les Misérables, while Mr. Stepp followed with a world-class rendition of Prince’s Purple Rain, which had everyone swaying their phone lights along as he mimed to the famous solo. It was legitimately an all-time iconic pep rally moment at BCHS as far as we're concerned.

After Mr. Stepp was crowned the winner of the lip-sync challenge, a few lucky students took to the floor for a game of real-life Hungry Hungry Hippos.

With one student lying on a rolling board and another steering them by the legs, teams raced to collect as many bouncy balls as possible before time ran out. It was riveting.

Let's hear it for our student-athletes, who are knocking it out of the park this season! We’re so proud of the hard work, dedication, and Pirate Pride they’re bringing to their teams and to our school.

And a huge thank-you to all of the student leaders and teachers who helped organize such a fun and memorable pep rally. We can't wait to see what they come up with for the next one.

Let's go, Pirates!

Club Rush! This morning, student representatives took their posts behind poster boards and sign-up sheets for our annual Club Rush, where students get a chance to sign up for this year's club offerings. One of the most exciting and important parts of life at BCS are these student-organized programs and communities who come together to connect over common interests. Whether it's guitar, drama, or trading cards, there's already a whole community of other students eager to collaborate on projects, and share hobbies with one another. We're proud to be home to such a vibrant culture of clubs and activities, and excited to see how these groups flourish and grow together throughout the year!

Yesterday's High Attendance Day meant lots of sun and activity for our middle school! Halfway through the day yesterday, BCMS enjoyed a class period outside in the park, playing kickball, basketball, and soccer with their teachers and classmates to celebrate High Attendance Day. Everyone had a great time soaking up the great weather and spending some low-stress time with friends during their school day. Sometimes that's what school is all about, engaging with your community, and making quality memories. That's exactly why, as these students know, if you miss school, you miss out!

Community Collaboration Helps Feed Our Student-Athletes!

This year, our student-athletes are enjoying healthy snacks provided by partners across our community, helping make sure our teams have plenty to eat on trips to away games.

Each season, coaches will have the opportunity to opt into a community feeding program that provides snacks for student-athletes traveling to away games. The program is organized by parents and community members and is made possible through the support of the Carter G. Woodson Center at Berea College.

Middle school girls soccer coach Brian Ramsay told us:
"It makes such a big difference for us to have food for the girls before their game, especially when we have to leave in the afternoon and they don’t play until hours later. It’s great to have some healthy options for them rather than just get fast food before the game, which is what we had to do sometimes before. I’m very thankful that Jordan Lockwood has helped organize this for a few teams, and that a partnership with the College will help expand the program.”

It's collaborations like this that show the networks of support here in Berea, across our schools, college, families, and community. We're proud to see how actively our local partners show up for our students and families.

A huge thank-you to Rasheka Richardson from the Carter G. Woodson Center for making this possible and showing us what community support is all about.

Who's ready for Homecoming Week 2026?!

Believe it or not, Homecoming Week is only a few weeks away, and that means it's time to start planning those Spirit Week outfits!

This year's Spirit Week will be September 21-25th, and our themes will be "superheroes", "anything-but-a-backpack", "decades", "celebrities", and "school spirit".

Get to brainstorming! We can't wait to see how creative everyone gets. Let's pull out all the stops and make this one a year to remember.

Our students want to send a huge thank-you to our Mental Health ACCESS team for their new school planners!

These planners are a great resource to help students stay organized, manage their time, keep track of assignments, and remember important dates throughout the school year. Tools like these can make a meaningful difference in students’ day-to-day lives while helping them build skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom.

We’re grateful for the many ways our ACCESS team invests in our students and provides the resources and support they need to succeed. Let's go, Pirates!

Last week, just as students were settling back into their school routines, they were greeted by the sound of bagpipes and flutes echoing through the halls on their way to class.

The source of the music was talented and accomplished musician John Skelton, who visited our school to give a special presentation as part of last week’s local Celtic festival.

Born in London, England, and raised in Somerset, John has deep roots in traditional Irish music. He is known as an accomplished and distinctive flute player, has recorded several albums, and has toured the world performing.

Throughout the presentation John demonstrated various instruments from penny whistles and Irish flutes, and of course, the unmistakable bagpipes. He shared stories about learning to play from his grandfather, as well as the rich history and traditions behind these iconic instruments.

Students loved the opportunity to see a professional musician perform up close and to hear the stories behind the instruments and music. It was a wonderful way to bring the traditions of Celtic music into our school. Thank you John for visiting our school and telling your story!

Welcome Back, Happy First Day of School!

Dear Middle and High School Families,

We are excited to welcome our students back tomorrow Thursday, August 13th.
We want to remind everyone that the first few days of school are a time for acclimation. Students are getting familiar with their classes, teachers, and expectations.

Students are learning how to navigate their schedules and working through their individual needs.

We strongly encourage regular attendance as students begin settling into their routines.

As you settle back into school routines, a few simple things can make mornings easier:
• Put away electronics at an appropriate time in the evening.
• Establish a consistent bedtime so students get enough rest.
• Lay out clothes, backpacks, and other needed items the night before.
• Review the next day's schedule and make a plan for the morning. (Our Pirates will be receiving a planner for FREE from our awesome ACCESS team!!)

Thank you for helping us start the year with grace, patience, and positivity.

First bell rings at 8:15 AM Students will be released at 3:10 PM.

Warmly,

Berea Middle and High school
