Video Production
Pirate creativity is in full swing at BCHS! Each week, the talented students in Ms. Cveticanin’s Cinematography and Video Production class come together to write, film, and edit BCHS’s very own Pirate Voyage Newscast. Every Friday, their finished broadcast is shared in classrooms across the school and online for students, staff, and families to enjoy.
Berea’s student newscast tradition runs deep. It began in the 1980s with Mr. Eddie Kennedy’s Broadcasting and Media classes, continued through Ms. MaryAnn Sowers’ leadership of the WBCB Newscast throughout the 2000s and 2010s, and lives on today in its post-COVID evolution as Pirate Voyage.
For more than 40 years, BCHS students have produced weekly interviews, comedy skits, and weather forecasts, learning camera operation, video editing, presentation skills, and the real-world highs and lows of broadcast journalism. And there's no doubt about it, the students run the show. With Ms. Cveticanin’s guidance and support, the class collaborates through every step of the process, from brainstorming ideas to delivering the final cut. It’s a truly student-led program, showcasing the focus, creativity, and teamwork that has always defined the Berea student body.
Today, this program exists as one of our CTE (Career and Technical Education) programs, giving students hands-on, industry-aligned experience while fostering individual interests and preparing them for success in their future careers.
The Pirate Voyage has a unique way of capturing the ebbs and flows of the school year from the student perspective. From Homecoming to Graduation, our anchors and interviewers are out in the halls, documenting and sharing the voices, moments, and memories of BCHS in a way that only they can.
